Easy to use webshop needed - to be handled WITHOUT programming skills!

I'm desperately looking for a webshop that really is easy to use for non-developers.
Having searched & tested a bunch I'm now very confused and really need help:
All "easy-to-use" webshops I've found - PrestaShop, OpenCart, ZenCart... - all require skills in php, smarty, jQuery, Ajax etc even to do small changes to the layout!
Then of course there's Magento and Ubercart, where everything can be changed from within webgui - but they are definitely not easy-to-use!
(What's the point, I don't get it - how can you make an easy-to-use gui-app that requires programming skills to use???)

So in my desperation I turn to you.
My needs:
I'm going to set up a webshop for a client, client runs a book-store.
Clients knowledge when it comes to anything it-related lies between zero and none (he can turn on his computer though! :-) ).
Me - I'm a Linux technician/sysadmin with some knowledge in html & php, can probably do at least basic stuff in any language. But I'm not a developer.
My client must be able to do basic things in the webshop like:
  • Change amount of article carousels, also decide if they are to be kept on one page or shown on all.
  • Change content in carousels or other blocks.
  • Add a text field/box to front page when something special is to happen (like "next week 25% off this book").
And of course normal article handling but that is not a problem in any system I've seen.
The shop is to run in a web-hotell (Crystone Sweden). I can move it or I can set up a new dedicated vps, but neither me nor my client wants that.

I will handle the more complicated stuff, this is not an issue I'll fix it no matter what.

So, what do you say? Where shall I go, am I looking for the impossible or is there a good solution somewhere out there?

These are very detailed questions you ask, requireing inside knowledge for each shop system you mentioned.
Hence, I would change my approach on how to find a good system.

First have a look at e.g. Wikipedia's Comparison_of_shopping_cart_software page if you can identify further shop systems that meet your demand.

If not, you should go with the systems you like best and then try to ask your questions at the specialised forums for the specific system. There is a good chance that you will get qualified help there.

Cheers,
Martin
