Dynamic DNS Server Linux?

I am looking for a secure DDNS Server for linux (perhaps something that interacts w/ BIND 9) so that nodes on my private network can connect and update their IP for their DNS entry. The application must support windows boxes, Linux boxes, as well as Linksys and Netgear routers. The interaction between client and host needs to be similar to that of DynDNS.com or other online dynamic DNS services companies. This application does not need to be free, but must run under linux. I would just use DynDNS's product(http://www.dyndnsservices.com/trial.html), but sadly it only runs under win 2k or win2k3 server.

Any one know of a viable solution?

Thanks for the response Chris,

Unfortunately nsupdate is not available on a Linksys or Netgear gateway ...

I don't quite understand the problem then... how is a cheap hardware router ever supposed to do this?

If you need a name for every device on your network, then instead of having the machines update the DNS themselves, put a linux based box doing DHCP in place, and have it speak to BIND through rndc.keys. It could even be the same machine doing both DNS and DHCP. When the DHCP server gives out an address, it updates the forward and reverse zones for the LAN. You may have to make a ton of explicit declarations in the DHCP configuration, like giving it the MAC of the crap hardware like linksys routers, so it knows what to call them in DNS, but I've used this method at work several times, and once it is set up, it runs like a top, and only needs you to change the MAC when a new device is added to the network.

Peace,
JimBass
