what about the domain do you want to configure? DNS? what kind of DNS configuration is that? If you want to run your own DNS server, then check out the BIND package and it's appropriate documentation, however your own DNS server is very more than likely NOT required here at all. What is your DNS currently doing?

Spell out your words.
What "domain" do you want to configure? DNS? Mail? LDAP? We're guessing you mean DNS...if so, the "dns step" you can follow would be: Seriously, there are thousands of how-to's you could have easily found.

OK, well read the BIND howto and go from there. But if you have a DNS server, then you need to have clients too. How are you supposed to make the other machines request the DNS record from your DNS server? As above, what are you currently doing with DNS?

Your friend is correct that in order to access your web site by name you must have a DNS entry. Is the web server on a Public IP? Have you acquired a domain name for it via a registrar? If not, you will need to properly register your domain before you can use it. Your registrar most likely provides DNS functions, probably even for free. One does not normally need to run a public facing DNS server to provide named access to a web site.

Again, you need to SPELL OUT your words. And again...did you try to look up ANYTHING about how to configure DNS, as was suggested before? Bear in mind that if you have a DNS server on YOUR own, internal network, that will NOT make your webpage appear on the Internet. As noway2 said, you'll have to register the domain name/address to make that happen. If all you want is your web server to appear on your internal network, then (again), set up a DNS server internally, and put the name/address in it.

You could always set up the web server, then set up a DNS server too and point all of your clients to use it as a DNS source. Centos with WebAdmin makes this fairly simple to set up.

DNS is one option and if it were on the internet this would be needed. If you don't want to go through all the configuration DNS then you could just add your server to your hosts file.
