dns server issue

i have installed bind 9.3.6 on a centos 5.4 virtual machine. i have successfully installed it and i just want to run it as a caching server but it is not working.I mean when i dig any url it gives connection time out messages . I checked /var/log/messages on my machine and there were two kinds of messages
1->: Jan 4 15:17:50 root named[6373]: connection refused resolving 'mirrors.hns.net.in/AAAA/IN': 199.7.83.42#53

2->:Jan 4 15:17:39 root named[6373]: network unreachable resolving 'mirrors.hns.net.in/A/IN': 2001:503:ba3e::2:30#53
Now there are a lot of errors of the above two kinds only. The only difference in the errors are the ip address that is different
i need help on that and if someone knows any video tutorial on bind 9.3.6 plz do share

199.7.83.42 is the L root server, or appears that it used to be. I'd guess your root.hints file is out of date, as L now appears to be 192.41.162.30

@OP
Edit /etc/sysconfig/named and add
Code:
OPTIONS="-4"
to stop bind from trying to resolve ipv6 addresses, or use ipv6 resolvers.
Don't forget to restart the service afterwards.

@Chris
199.7.83.42 is l.root-servers.net while 192.41.162.30 is l.gtld-servers.net. The former are authoritative for the whole ".", while the later are only for .com, .net and .edu

oops. my bad. But then that IP did not respond to dns requests at all. Even if it's serving only certain tlds, it should NXDOMAIN everything else shouldn't it?

It just forwards the tlds it's not authoritative for, to the root-servers
