DNS hook for client registration

Hi friends,

Is there a hook thing in the Linux DNS. What I mean here is - in Linux hooks are called when the status of the network changed - like dhclient-enter-hook, exit-hook etc - is there similar thing when a dhcp client registers itself with the DNS?

Thanks

clients should never register themselves with DNS, it's a hideous thing to do. Why would you ever trust a client to update your authoritative central information records? Pfft! Make the DHCP server update DNS using tsig updates, and then you maintain a sane security model.

Thanks Chris. The situation is, I have a small network. The actual DHCP server is a netgear wireless router. Though the long term plan is to launch a DHCP server, I have to provide an interim solution where (in a very limited amount of time) the clients register themselves to the server, with a condition that there should be a very little disruption to the existing setup. I could not find any such provision in the netgear router. So, for now I have to opt for this solution.

Launched a new DHCP/DNS server. The original problem is now out dated.

Thanks for your support guys.
