DNS Cache

How would I instruct my Linux system to use the local network's DNS cache, located at lets say 192.168.1.254, or the ISP's DNS cache, located on 1.2.3.4, if the LAN nameserver is unavailable?

Tree files to check on.

/etc/host.conf
man host.conf will tell you about the order option

/etc/hosts
Is for static dns resolve

/etc/resolv.conf
the file for all your dns needs

open /etc/resolv.conf
add:
Code:
nameserver 192.168.1.254
nameserver 1.2.3.4
