disk 2 disk mirror

Dear friends & gurus

i have some servers running rhel5,they are in mirror disk 2 disk there is no any hardware RAID only software RAID and they in remote place.

Assume RHEL5 hda(Disk1) & hdb(Disk2) currently in mirror, i have to install some patches in it. Before that i have to break the mirror and boot from hdb if it is successful. then i have to apply the patches to hda.

after that i have to boot from hda and check whether the latest patches updated and working fine. finally i have put them in mirror.

the same scenario for solaris.

am new to mirroring please help.
any help is appreciated

Thanks In Advance
JNReddy.

Are you using the mirrors as a backup to see whether the patches work? That probably isn't the best use of RAID. Disk mirroring is to increase hardware fault tolerance. I'd recommend a backup of your current system, applying the patches and then restoring your backup if the patches are unacceptable. Having said that, your plan will probably work.

thanq

Dear mostlyharmless

thanq for your reply here we are using disk to disk mirrors.

1) disk1 should mirror the disk2
2) i want to break the
3) i update the patches to disk1
4) then after i check whether all services are running and patch is
updated successfully then i mirror the disk1 with disk2

above is all my job

Thanks In Advance
JNReddy.
