Dell T7600 bios update

I'm having some trouble with this. I've seen different approaches while ducking (my own term for searching on duckduckgo )

This server has Ubuntu on it and I tried Dell's legacy approach here. I was able to boot to Freedos usb and select safe mode but I wasn't able to change the drive letter. If I selected B it said something like removed the media from A and insert B. C, D and E just didn't work. So I don't know how to get to the usb here.

I would try this site's solution but I'm unsure of how to edit the image. I believe I could use mkisofs but I'm, honestly, a bit confused and really don't want to learn the tool inside and out. I just need to get this done.

There seems to be allot here but again, its allot. I wouldn't be sure how to use it.

I could really use some help on this. If there is a more direct write-up on this somewhere please point me.

Why do you want to update bios?

Well, besides normal security/features, I have a 12TB drive that it doesn't recognize. My question would be why would you not want to? (I guess besides it being a pain in the @#$%)

^ I guess the previous poster wanted to point out that BIOS updates should only be done if there's a good reason.
You seem to have a good reason.

This is a little confusing; all I see is that you're having trouble actually booting the USB stick with a bootable DOS installed?
I still think this is the best approach, you just need to figure out how to boot any USB?

Last time I looked at a firmware update (UEFI not BIOS, as it happens), it basically told me not to bother. The system was only 3-4 years old, so I took its advice. It had a firmware based update, and takes a backup itself on the way, but I skipped it.

Re the drive, is it formatted as gpt ?

I know this is a little old. I got side tracked but this is still on my wish list of things to get done. As I mentioned before, my system (firmware) doesn't recognize the 12TB drive.

"I was able to boot to (a) Freedos usb" (I forgot or mistyped and left out the "a") -----but yes, I was able to boot to dos but it was a dos image which didn't contain the exe file. From the different articles posted there are two options. 1. use image software and insert the exe file into the usb image or 2. once booted to dos change the drive letter to the USB stick with contains the exe (not inside the image file but by itself on the same usb drive)

I don't actually remember, as I haven't been able to use it, but I think it's a new disk. However, the firmware (corrected from my old habit of bios) doesn't even see it.

or
3. copy the file to the DOS USB you created? I.e., not booting it, but assuming it will work as any ol' storage?
