I start first at bios seeing drives and then work my way up from there.

Linky

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/...e-r720/manuals

starting with downloading and reading the pdf manuals from Dell.

Hi.

I agree, If it's not in the bios then it's not installed right or wrong\bad hardware?

I remember needing a disk for my old WD-HDs (mostly to format but http://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?lang=en)
...you should be able to substitute a live Linux, load Linux and see if you can format with the partitioner?

Best wishes and have fun.

new WD disks are factory formatted to Microsoft's NTFS -- for your convenience
and WD external drives have Microsoft tools preinstalled for you on a windows ntfs partition

are these desks from DELL computers formatted to NTFS or
ext3 ,ext4 or a LVM
and are they using GPT or not

Smile Dell Computer not recognize WD hard disk .

All My friends
I have WD Caviar Blue hard disc in my computer and working well. But I have 3 WD Caviar Blue Hard disks I formatted them by another computer Lenovo with Windows 7 OS but when I install it in DELL computer as internal hard disc the DELL computer didn't recognize it and give me ( No disc drive was detected, If you know the name of the driver needed by your disc drive, you can select it from the list. SO what I have to do to let DELL computer detect it, that I need to install Linux Ubuntu.

I'm not there watching over your shoulder, the only thing I can think of the jumper for connection speed might need to be adjusted.
