Delivering POP mail to an IMAP store.

Hello,

I've set up an postfix+courier imap+mysql server.
My question is is it possible to 'move' mailfiles over to the imap store?
Clarifying:
I have another mail address at my isp provider. And I would like to get rid of my pop mail storing mails locally in my mail client (which is windows; ms outlook). My ISP doesn't support imap, and I would like to store all my mail on one server, which is located in a good server envirmonment. Plus it's nice to have access to all mail from a web interface when it's vacation/travel time. I was thinking something like having a pop client cheking for mail every couple of minutes on the server, some suedo code follows:

Crontab on local server:
0,5,10,15,20..55 * * * * /usr/sbin/checkmail
2,7,12,17,22..57 * * * * /usr/sbin/mv_mail

checkmail:
Checks and downloads popmail from external server

mv_mail:
moves mail from e.x /var/spool/mail/pop/user/cur/* to /var/spool/mail/imap/user/cur/*

Will this kind of setup be possible? is Maildir style popmail compatible with Maildir style imap?
Or is this just too easy to be possible?

Thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated;=)

To fetch from POP3(S) you could use any mail retriever like fetchmail or getmail as "on the wire" a message is just encapsulation. It's only when storing messages comes into play that you should choose if you want your local Mail Delivery Agent (or MDA) to handle incoming email (=fetchmail) of if you're fine with the process acting as MDA as well (=getmail but it can use your local MDA as well). Added bonus of getmail is that it works with Gmail IMAP easily so you could back up those emails as well. Similarly to "convert" locally stored POP3 emails to your IMAP server you just drag messages from your local mailbox and drop them into your personal IMAP namespace. yes, it's easy as that and the MTA will deal with any conversions.

Thanks for answer,

"Similarly to "convert" locally stored POP3 emails to your IMAP server you just drag messages from your local mailbox and drop them into your personal IMAP namespace."

This is exactly what I want to avoid. I would like cron to do all these things, so I just have one mailbox (the imap store) to consider, not having to to locate mails all over and then drag them into the imap store. Is there an imap import function perhaps, which can 'monitor' a directory for mails, and then import them to the imap store?

Thanks again,

For email already in single plain text message, mbox or Maildir format that could be automated but your current MUA uses a proprietary mail storage format.
