Setting up own email server

I'm applying for php dev jobs so I thought it would be nice if I can demo my project to them on my laptop. I doubt I'll have internet access so everything has to be local. Is it possible to have a local email server so i can receive emails from my php script?

Yes it is. I don't know what Debian uses for SMTP, but you shouldn't have any major problems doing that.

The only issue I can think of is that you may have host names not being resolved (put a fake entry in /etc/hosts?). I'd try it and post here with any problems you notice.

Thanks for your reply to my post. I have actually managed to set my local mail server up. It sends emails to a file in /var/spool/mail. I setup an account as steven@localhost using an alias for root. How would I add more accounts ?

It woul help if you told us what you'd set up. Typically an MTA will pick up system users if you are using system accounts or some form of virtual alias file if you are using virtual accounts. How are you set up?
