Damaged files with ProFTPd

Hello,

I'm having problems with the ftp-server ProFTPd,
If I transfer files from a Linux host to a Windows client, it says that my transfered files are damaged, so I'm unable to open them...

I've searched this forum and several people say I have to set the default transfer mode to 'binary' mode.
I did that, but it didn't work at all for me... so despite the binary transfer mode my files are still damaged when I transfer them.

when I do it through SSH, it works fine, so the problem is the FTP-server...
What do I wrong??

I use Ubuntu Server 10.04.2 with proFTPd 1.32...

Thanks!!

How are you transferring them ? Are you using a windows ftp client to retrieve files from the linux host, or are you using the command line ftp program on the linux host ?

Either way, it has nothing to do with ProFTP as the ftp client is the one that determines the transfer type (binary or ascii) and the linux ftp client is not part of ProFTP.

Yes I use filezilla client to transfer my files... however, when I transfer them with firefox, the same problem appears.
So logically I conclude that the client has nothing to do with it and the problem is situated on my server.

When I transfer them through SSH it works perfectly, so the files located on the server are fine, they become damaged when I transfer them.

I also tried both active and passive mode on filezilla, but it doesn't make any difference.

However, I used to work with PureFTP, and then I could transfer them succesfully... I switched to proFTP and it doesn't work anymore.
There are no errors in the log files either.

Also, when i transfer them through LAN, the same problem appears..., so the router has nothing to do with it...

Do files get damaged when you upload them ?
What type of files are we talking about ?
Have you checked the logs or followed the command line progress in filezilla ?
Have you tried using the windows command line client specifying BINARY before an upload or download (for a binary type file)?

No, when I upload them, they don't get damaged. Only when I download them to my computer.

all kind of files: mp3 music files, docx files, pdf files, they all get damaged.
However, .TXT files do not get damaged...

The log file entries:

But in proFTPd I wrote the following line: "DefaultTransferMode binary", so it always uses the binary mode to transfer files.

Here is my config file:

Use the windows command line ftp client to retrieve a binary file then report on what happens.

I've used the built-in windows ftp client.

Here's a screenshot of the output:
http://www.fileserve.com/file/K3qvXN7

However, I've set the "DefaultTransferMode" option into comment and then it uses the ASCII mode to transfer a .docx file and .hmtl file.
But the files keep being damaged when I transfer them...

So apparently txt and html files don't get damaged, but docx and pdf files do.

Well now I've set up a VPN tunnel.
When I make a VPN connection from a remote location and type local IP address of my server in FileZilla,
I'm able to transfer the files JUST FINE! So without any errors.

But when I connect through my external IP, so without using VPN, my files still get damaged...
