Cron crash

Hello,

I am person who has no idea working on Linux. However, I have critical problem and would like to solve it with you.

The problem is, we have a wordpress (linux based) website and a freelancer has created its application via apppresser. He also developed notifications via Pushwoosh.

Last months, our notifications stopped working and we contacted with him to solve the issue. Here is the paste of what he wrote;

"The Cronjob crashed, I restarted it just now and it's running again so the notifications should work."

and notificaitons started working agin.

Now we have the exact same problem. However, the developer is not replying back to our e-mail for weeks.

Whatever the result will be, I want to restart this cron function.

I kindly need your support to explain what to do in a very open language thinking that I have no idea on Linux. I simply want to check the status of cron and restart if needed.

What shall I download?
What commands will I need to use for that?
...

Seeking your support.

Thanks in advance,

Hi

You don't say what kind of distribution you have, but I think most have a command called service to do this.

Try this first, it will tell you if cron is running:
Code:
service cron status
If not running, do

Code:
service cron start
If you are not root user, add sudo before the service command.

Thank you for your reply. I will immediately check it. Before that, a newbie question, which application do I need to connect to Linux server?

On Windows try putty. On Macintosh/Linux, open a terminal and run "ssh servername".
