Red face Could not load kernel virtualization module in Centos

Hi,

I am not quite sure what went wrong on with my KVM. After reboot, When I tried starting my VM - I get the below message:-

"error: Failed to start domain "XXXXX"
error: unsupported configuration: Domain requires KVM, but it is not available. Check that virtualization is enabled in the host BIOS, and host configuration is setup to load the kvm modules."

In fact my box was working perfectly alright. Looks like after the reboot something got changed.

I have already performed the below:-

a) Verified Virtualization support in BIOS.
b) Make sure /proc/cpuinfo shows the vmx flag.
c) Verified no hardware issue (using smartctl)

I could also see there is no kvm module loaded, and when I tried, it gives me another error.

$SHELL: modprobe kvm
FATAL: Error inserting kvm (/lib/modules/2.6.32-573.1.1.el6.x86_64/kernel/arch/x86/kvm/kvm.ko): Accessing a corrupted shared library

tried with insmod too.. still the same. Also, I did tried to read the kvm.ko file using readelf and even it throws error. The error says some like below:-

"readelf: Error: Unable to read in 0xf80 bytes of section headers
readelf: Error: Section headers are not available!
"

Couldn't anyone please look into the same and share any ?

Appreciate your help....

Hi Shads2k5,

The message says the file is corrupted.
Any issue with harddisk bad sectors or so?
How long it has been since not working?

Oh ... so do you mean the particular file got corrupted ?

well, smartctl has not thrown any error so far .. so guess the hardisk is OK.

well you can try checking if the given file is corrupt / modified.

$ rpm -V kernel-2.6.32-573.1.1.el6.x86_64

if this command lists out above module file then it's probably corrupt. In that case you can boot to older kernel and re-install give kernel if you want to use same version of kernel or you may upgrade to latest version of kernel.

Regards

Thumbs up

Yes... that helped me to understand that the respective modules for all the kernels were corrupted. ....Thank you so much.

I installed the latest kernel and its all good now.

Thanks to you also . Strategist !!!!
