Control Web usage

I am new to Linux and have been asked to setup a system whereby only certain people/machines on a network can access the web. I know I can "block" access using the ip address, but any one with a little knowledge can open that.

Is it possible to set up this sort of control, and does this machine replace the router?

If it is possible how do I do it. I have slackware 13 installed.

Hi,

Have a look at squid. Set up authentication for your users, this way only users with valid accounts have access to internet.
