Considerations before upgrading php 4.3 to 5.0

Hi,

I have a Red Hat server, where I got installed PHP 4.3, and I want to upgrade my php version to the latest, using the up2date command.

I want to know what considerations do I need to take care before upgrading this, if everything is going to work properly as if was or I have to backup certain files for contingency?

There is a migration guide on the php.net web site. I would not recommend doing it on a live server, but try it in a test environment first. When I ported my project from 4.x to 5.0 I received a quire some nasty error messages in between my page layout, some MySQL queries crashed (because of improper quoting), some scripts simply stopped to execute. It was not a *big* deal, I spent less than an hour to get the project up and running again *but* you don't want to play such games in a live environment.
