Connecting Macbook to a linux cups printer
I have a linux server connected to a local printer and sharing it via cups.
Other linux machines connect and use that printer The Macbook seems to see the printer. I set the Mac up to use IPP protocol, it finds the printer. I then select the correct driver for the printer. Wehn I try to print, the Mac's print spooler pops up and shows the printer online, idel. It starts spooling, but after a few seconds shows the printer as puased? Meanwhile the printer is well, online can I can print to it from other machines. I poked around and found postings saying you need to install on the Mac gutenprint 5.2. Done that, no visible change. How do I configure the Mac to print to the cups printer ? |
Try making a raw printing port on your linux machine, linked to the existing printer. Then install the correct printer driver on your macbook, and point the port to the raw printing port on your linux machine. Take a look at this: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/SMB-HOWTO-9.html.

I used this so OS X users to print to Active Directory shared printers, it might work for you.
