well this is a /etc/fstab problem not sure why it is not loading it from proc to sytem and th mtab is not creating a link but if all else make sure the user has permission to use disk cdrom pludev. if that does not work then hard link it and mount it. with the /etc/fstab
create a folder in /mnt/ and call it cdrom /mnt/cdrom a hard link in fstab looks like this.
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom auto noauto,owner,users,ro 0 0
now make sure in bios you have cdrom set to auto. what ever it is to enable it.
