command not found

Hi,
I'm using ssh secure shell and I'm struggled to understand how it does work.
1- I'm trying to run the following command but I always get a message saying the libname command not found
libname deals '/wrds/tfn/sasdata/dealscan';
2- how can run the command when I'm in the pico editor.
Your cooperation would be appreciated.

i don't have the "libname" command on my computer, either.
are you sure it's actually a command to type in?
what are you trying to achieve there?
more detail please.

when you're in an editor you don't run any commands, you edit text files.

2 - you can put the editor into background with Ctrl+Z and run your command.

I think you might find that you are to supply the actual library name for 'libname'.

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

From the limited information provided I believe the OP is trying to run sas which back in the day was known as Statistical Analysis System. libname is a sas statement to assign an alias to a directory.

I have not played with sas so I can't be much help and hopefully others more knowledgeable will post. Are you trying to create a sas batch program or just run sas?

ssh is just a method to login into a remote computer using encryption. Once you login via ssh you can run sas but it is an x window program. If you login from a windows PC you need to run a x-server like xming.
