cluster server? or traffic manager?

Hey guys I have a linux file box at home which I access often. But as a back up, I wanted to do a 2nd box and reroute when box 1 goes down

question is, can this be done with same DNS records?

so i call box 1 venus and also box 2 venus in the dns entries. Would this be possible?

or what would be the right path for this. I know cluster servers exist, but I heard that is too expensive for what I want to do

You can install HA cluster software for free (except for your time). Look into HA-proxy and pacemaker.
