cloning red hat EL4 or El5 servers

Hi Guys,

First I want to thank you for the help you are trying to give me, seriously thanks.

Problem: I am a unit administrator and I have to constantly install servers. Is there a way I can ghost them? Use an ISO to reproduce them? I have already tried gl4 and gotten a server to clone its hardrive onto a partition within the server, but my company does not allow FTP so I can't use that, but that what gl4 wants me to use. My external hardrive is not working with linux machines so that's also not an option. SCP-ing or creating a bootable ISO image would work, or maybe just ISO with the help of a bootable linux environment disk.

thanks,
jackie

Why dont you try to set up a kickstart server and you can boot -> install -> configure -> commision your servers automatically within a few minutes. If you are interested in this, will give more info.

I can direct you towards the proper direction at this time. Give yourself time and read:

I also need to clone a couple of my Linux RHEL 4 update 5 (2.6.9-55) servers but I only want to backup the OS. There are databases and NAS on it and connected to it but I am not sure of what all I should select to backup. Can someone point me to a link or recommended best practices for creating an image to restore the already patched OS system? Trying to minimize amount of downtime in case of major DR issue or server outage.
I have already ordered Acronis True image server Echo for Linux (It should be arriving any day now). I plan on booting to it but I'm not sure what all I should select just to get a bootable, restorable OS iso. I know most of the config files I need but I'm sure there is a lot more that I'm missing. I could probably install fresh and just update config files manually since I have them backed up via Backup Exec already but it's complicated.

Any help is greatly appreciated in advance.

DJ
