clone the whole linux using rsync

hi

We'd like to clone the whole linux (RHEL 3) using rsync via SSH and resore on other machine with the same hardware.
Could someone explain pls how it works ?

btw. could rsyn clone MBR and Partition table as well ?

No rsync will not clone the mbr. But you could do a ./ on your rsync and it will copy all directories below ./ to the other machine.

so you would have
Code:

rsync -a / root@<host>:<dest directory>

You do not want to do the entire root file system. For example /proc, /sys, /net would be bad.

We've had good luck using kickstart to clone our CentOS machines:
