chmod not working as expected

Hi Gurus,

Chmod is not working as expected.

we have nis setup for users and groups.

we have users x y z and group abc in nis server

we have another server server-A and added this server-A to nis client

Now I have created directory /project/chip in Server-A

project directory has full permission

chip directory has 770 permission in this case users x y z not have access .

If we change chip directory permission 775 then users get a permissions to enter chip directory. Please help

You mention permissions on /project and /project/chip but not the ownership.
Can you provide the user and group ownership of each?

Are you sure they were not added to group "abc" since the last time they logged in? The login shell gets its credentials when it is started, and will not see any subsequent changes. What does the "id" command report when run in each of those login sessions?

Maybe ACL is active on that directory which is blocking access for the users? Have you checked with getfacl?
