Ok, this is one of my first attempts with Ubuntu, didn't know. So, then what would you recommend to do instead. The update-rc.d only works if the startup file is already there, which it is not. So how do I got about doing that? Thanks.

what was the command that you ran to start iptables at boot? it should have been:

Code:
$ sudo update-rc.d iptables defaults xx
Where "xx" is how early in the boot process you want iptables to start.
