change to config file MySQL my.cnf does not take
hey all
I am running ubuntu server at work. I have been trying to make MySQL let me create a larger MEMORY table. I have a table, but when it hits the capacity limit, it fails and crashes.
the setting in my.cnf is max_heap_table_size =
the default is 16777216
i am trying to set it to 52428800

i save the file and restart MySQL and when i do a --verbose --help, it shows being set to the default. The my.cnf does not change. I have even tried with the server was running with
set max_heap_table_size = 52428800
and it takes the query no problem, but when i check, i am back at the defautl 16M.

i am restarting the server after changes in the config file.

would really appreciate any tips on this one, kinda pulling my hair out.

Are you sure you are editing /etc/my.cnf ?

well, i don't have a /etc/my.cnf file,
it is /etc/mysql/my.cnf

but i think it is the only copy of any my.cnf file
