centos stream not finding any repositories during installation process
 

Hi,

I'm trying to install centos stream, but unfortunately it cannot find any repositories automatically. The only way it works is if you add one manually, which I eventually did.
The bug seems to be well known: https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=16456, but it's marked as solved, which intrigues me, because I have downloaded the latest boot version 20201211.

Any ideas why that is? Have you tried it yet?

But, I am in the process if installing stream using the boot ISO to a VM. It works the same as the old network GUI installers in that you need to specify the mirror like:

your.mirror.com/centos/8.3.2011/BaseOS/x86_64/os/

Where your.mirror.com is some mirror close to your location.

When you say the old nework gui installer, I'm guessing you're including Centos 7 also. That's clearly not my experience with Centos 7 - I never had to enter anything manually, it would always find the mirror automatically, as long as it was connected to the internet.

Someone on IRC on a Centos channel is saying: "this is when you do netinstall image. i think it was fixed in at some point but returned in 8.3 (not sure about stream 8 installer, i might be okay). same in rhel 8 installer. similar bug in the same module."
Maybe that's a clue for the issue.

When I activate the network interface, during the installation process it tells me: "Failed to set up installation source; check the repo url and proxy settings". This is without me changing anything else. Under details it says: "Failed to download metadata for repo 'appstream': Cannot prepare internal mirrorlist" etc.


On Centos 7 it simply works, I've just tested it. Indeed, under the installation source it says local. Nonetheless, I am able to go to the next step and start the installer. Maybe that's the only reason why mirrorlink issue has come up in the first place, because with Centos 8 Stream I cannot continue the installation.

Indeed, I see that on Centos 7 you can upgrade afterwards. Weird setup.

I've been using remote mirror as a source for net installs for awhile now so I guess somewhat automatic for me...

So it's actually considered a bug. You're not supposed to enter things manually, if you don't really want to.
