Hey all. Has anyone posted such a thing? I'm looking for a step 1 through X type of HOWTO. If I should get a book or read something, please provide the resource as I definitely don't mind reading the fine manual.
Our current environment consist of a physical server running CentOS 6.4 as Master LDAP and VM running 6.4 as slave. The Slave is running extremely slow and, instead of trying to troubleshoot that particular VM, I've decided to stand up an entirely new one and configure it as a slave (tertiary until the secondary can be removed). Some of the documentation I'm finding is inconsistent, e.g. open slapd.conf and ensure the following is included. There's no slapd.conf on any of our LDAP servers.
So, if anyone has successfully stood up this environment, I'd sure appreciate knowing what your /etc/openldap/ldap.conf files look like on each server as well as any syncrepl info to help ensure I'm configuring it all properly.
OpenLDAP changed the way configuration works. The configuration is specified within the LDAP directory under the cn=confug DN. To me, this is a massive pain to deal with, but fortunately there are a few guides on the OpenLDAP site discussing how to migrate configurations to and from the new way of doing things.
When I set up master-slave replication, I used the syncrepl overlay. You might start with its documentation. I remember it being a bit of a pain to get working correctly, but once up and running it's very very stable and reliable in my environment.
