CentOS 5.2 Booting stall
Hi All
I have IBM x3200 server. I installed CentOS 5.2 with 3HDDs and 1 usb backup drive. it is hosting Samba with domain login. OS is installed on /dev/sda. /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc are raid1 for data. It has been working fine. recently I decided to take the image of OS drive. after rebooting, the system was stalled on HAL Daemon [OK]. it didn't go any further. no login screen or anything. But all users are still ok to login and see share drive. I couldn't find any error message at dmesg or message.log. So basically if i want to do any thing to server, i have to ssh it. Could anyone have idea where I should be digging to solve it?
Thanks very much in advance..

is there a particular reason for 5.2 when 5.5 is the current and supported version of CentOS
or are you planning on roiling your own "backported" bug fixes and security updates.

just how did you do this ?
you might have , by mistake, overwritten some system files when you made that back up copy of the 3 hdd's
where did you store the *.iso

Hi John
Thank for the reply, I am planning to "yum update" tonight, and see how it goes.
When I took backup, i just use acronis to image OS drive to USB hdd. then rebooted after that. didnt touch anything to other drive. Server is up and running and operational, except I dont have login screen, which I am not happy with ( )))..

How you have taken the OS drive backup ?
Try to restart once more & move into single user mode.........
Then move to runlevel 3 & check it.

thanks Davinders, I used Acronis to image drive.
Anyway, I tried Alt+Ctrl Fx, but nothing happened, no tty, just on the same screen, where showing all the loading status, last one was
HAL Daemon [OK] as described above.

Hi All
Sorry about taking so long to reply, I have been quite busy with other matter. anyway, I havent tried what davinders suggested yet, because I havent got much time to deal with it if any problem arise. It is production machine and working at the moment, except login screen. I will try what you guy say over the new year time, and I will report back.
Thanks all
