Centos 4.8 vnc issues.... PLEASE HELP ME!!

Hello people,
I had a very bad day... I couldn't get vncserver to forward GLX to all my vnc desktops. I had Fedora 8 installed on my server before... where it never gave me any problems on openGL stuff on vnc. Since the os was not stable i was forced to switch to centos. So i downloaded centos 4.8 and installed it, and im not able get the damn opengl applications to run. I searched the net a LOT... i mean a lot i still no answer.

So this is what happened... i uninstalled the native vnc provided by centos and installed tiger vnc (downloded it from virtualGL website). Then i fire up a vncserver on :1. Then i vncviewer on :1 and type glxgears this is what i get.

Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0".
glxgears: Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual.

here is my server config
motherboard : gigabyte U2sh..(something)
processor : AMD phenom X6, 3.4Ghz
RAM : 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz
HDD : 16TB
Graphics : Nvidia 430GT 1GB GDDR3

fyi i installed the drivers provided by NVIDIA and glxgears are working fine on :0

first WHY CEntOS 4.8 - that thing is very old

why did you not use the current CentOS 5.5 64 bit

i do not think that the nvidia card was supported when 4.8 was locked

install CentOS 5.5 and use the nvidia driver in the repo or the nvidia.run

but if you use the .run you will also need to reinstall mesa afterwords
the .run driver overwrite some system files.

Solved

Hey John sorry for the very late reply... i did not get a chance to shutdown the servers. I finally got the chance yesterday and installed centos 5.6... and the vnc is working like a charm. But, had some problems with ATI cards.. i was not able to fireup any openGL apps even with ATI drivers installed from amd website and switching the ATI card to NVIDIA and installing the propriety drivers from nvidia did the trick.
Thanks a lot for your time
