CentOS 4.3 install problems on HP NetServer LH3

Hey all. I have an HP NetServer LH3 - 2x P3 550MHz CPUs, 512MB SDRAM, 3x 18GB SCSI HDDS(in raid0), and 2x9.1 GB SCSI HDDS (also in raid0).
I have tried installing Fedora Core 5, and am now trying to install CentOS 4.3, and encounter the same problem.

At the start of the install (pre-graphical) it loads the needed drivers. Then says it can't find a HDD and brings up a list - Intel EtherExpress/100 driver (e100)
Symbios 53c896 (sym53c8xx)
Adaptec AHA-2740, 28xx, 28xx 39xx (alc7xxx)
LSI MegaRAID Controllers (megaraid_mbox)

These are correct, but then when i get to the partitioning part of the installation, it still says it cant find any hdds. Does someone know whats going on?

What controller is in the machine? Model and version
One of the things the anaconda installer on these Redhat and Redhat clones is the lack of loading newer hardware controllers. You may need to build a driver boot disk for it to load. The problem the module must be compiled as the same version of kernel the installer is using.

One way but not the greatest is to install to an IDE drive first. Then once installed copy the partitions over to the scsi drives and modify /boot/grub/grub.conf and /etc/mtab and /etc/fstab to point to the right type dev. Like changing /dev/hda1 to /dev/sda1 since scsi uses sd and IDE uses hd for device markers.

Use of a live CD like Knoppix can help alot in this type of move. Also check out Ghost for Linux and Rescue CD http://freshmeat.net/projects/systemrescuecd/

Have you tried a different distro just to see if it would pick-up the scsi controller properly? What Brian1 says is true, however, that server you have is obviously aged and there is no reason why CentOS doesn't have the driver in question, that is, unless you've recently upgraded the scsi controller to a much newer hardware revision.

Good Luck,
