cannot join domain

Not sure if this is the right forum for this.

LINUX RHEL3

I have had problems with a vista workstation which kept bluescreening so I have re-installed Vista.

Previous to this, it was joined to a domain using samba as a PDC but now when I join I get the following.

"The specified computer account could not be found. Contact an administrator to verify the account is in the domain. If the account has been deleted, reboot and rejoin the domain."

I have other workstations joined to the domain without problems as this one was before vista was re-installed. I am logged on as administrator and have turned the firewall off. Google was not its usual helpful self.

Any ideas?

I've had this in the past - try creating a new account on Samba with a different computername, and then renaming the computer to the same name before attempting to join again.

Ahh see, I got around it by manually deleting the existing machine account, renaming the workstation and creating a new machine account on the PDC. Not sure why I had to do this as Samba normally makes it for you.

Thanks for your reply

Problem is solved

The machine's SID was different after installing than the entry that Samba had. I don't think that renaming the host was required. Just deleting the machine account and adding it again.
