cannot burn cds, problem hald service

I'm running RedHat AS4, and I'm having trouble burning CDs. The issue seems to be with the hald service. On the desktop, when I go Preferences => Removable Storage, a message comes up saying "Volume Management not Supported, the "hald" sercie is not running." However, when I check, the hald IS running. Any suggestions where to look next? I have two machines acting the same, one 32-bit and one 64-bit.

How did you attempt to burn a CD (far to many GUI frontends to venture a guess)??? Check and see if haldaemon is either running or not. Please show the output from the following commands;

cdrecord -scanbus

service haldaemon status
