BUG: soft lockup detected


I am seeing the below errors on the messages log however no performance issues were reported or kernel panic'd. I would like to know the root cause of it. I would appreciate any help.

is this occurred during boot? what os you have, what kernel you have?

It is occurring randomly when the server is up and running.
OS is Oracle Enterprise Linux Enterprise Linux Server release 5 (Carthage)
Kernal version: 2.6.18-8.0.0.4.1.el5
