Syslog reads

ns1 named[5834]: starting BIND 9.5.1-P2 -u bind
Sep 15 14:24:17 ns1 named[5834]: found 1 CPU, using 1 worker thread
Sep 15 14:24:17 ns1 named[5834]: using up to 4096 sockets
Sep 15 14:24:17 ns1 named[5834]: loading configuration from '/etc/bind/named.conf'
Sep 15 14:24:17 ns1 named[5834]: /etc/bind/named.conf:17: unknown key '.rndc-key.'
Sep 15 14:24:17 ns1 named[5834]: loading configuration: failure
Sep 15 14:24:17 ns1 named[5834]: exiting (due to fatal error)

Line 17 of named.conf reads...

allow { 127.0.0.1; } keys { .rndc-key.; };

I removed the annoying "." before and after rndc-key and now it seems to work.

Thank you so much Bathory for your help and patience!
One last question though, what did I do wrong in the first place? This was a fresh install as I said with nothing more than SSH server, Webmin and Bind installed.

I don't know what you did wrong. Could be webmin.
The strange thing in your config were all those dots before and after the filenames!!
Anyway, I'm glad that it works now

Cheers
