Best filesystem for SAN

what should be the best pick on the file system type for a host connected to SAN of 1TB via Fibre channels .e.g CentOS 64 , 64G RAM HP / PROLIANT / DL380-G7 , the app will write files of size , say 200 to 250 MB each..

I understand there is a choice of GFS / GFS2 ( should I consider GFS2 ? )

also there is XFS and vxfs which again are GFS but i want to understand which would be the BEST choice and why ...

thx,
Tariq

What does best mean? If there was a best filesystem why would there be more than one?

DOS FAT is the best if you need floppy compatibility.

Do you need shared access? Snapshot? What are your backup plans? Do you need to be able to grow? shrink? What size will it grow to? Do you want simplest administration? Do you want fastest recovery after power outage or disconnect? Safest? Will you use SSD? Is Linux the only OS that needs to be able to mount the filesystem? What else is important to you?

GFS is a shared access, cluster FS. You don't need that for a single host. The default FS on Linux is ext3 or ext4 (if you trust it).

AFAIK XFS and vxfs are unrelated to GFS.

Exactly. We have no idea what the "best" is for you until you clearly explain how you'll be using it.
