Hi All,

I going to be consultant in a big company where they need backup solution for the videochat server. I am the guy who has to suggest the backup solution, of course , i did google for some of the backup which is symantec for the big business. If any one recommend the best backup solution , that would be more helpful for me ?

Thanks

Do you have any experience implementing a backup solution? The list goes on and on and on and on of different possible solutions. I am currently a backup and recovery engineer and work with 4 different backup products, not including the hardware appliances like data domain.

go with whatever you have experience with, if you dont have experience you really should go through a class. Symantec, EMC, Commvault all offer classes that are about a week long and are basically a crash course in installation, configuration, and administration.

If symantec netbackup is the way you want to go tell your client that they need to send you to the week training. Otherwise its going to be tough, there are a few good books out there like "Pro Data Backup & Recovery" but its not something you are going to learn overnight.

rsync is not a viable backup and recovery solution for an enterprise IT shop. Thats my opinion but I could back it up all day long with facts as to why but we won't go there.

Thanks for the quick response!!
Yes , here in my current project I used rsync only from the NAS device which is mounted with Vmware ESXi. Since it is very small setup and the this techniology I willnot use for big business environment.
So For setup the wither symantec or EMC type . do i need to go for training? .I don't think i will be sent .

Thanks
Linuxguy.

Are you backing up a VMware only environment or will you also be backing up physical machines? If you are just backing up VMs look at using veeam. It is very easy to use for VMs.

There is a bit of a learning curve with netbackup.

You could try something like "Backintime"
