Automate Backups

Advice needed.

I've built up a Ubuntu server (8.04 LTS) as a file server and have directories in /home that I want to setup on a automated backup schedule. I know about the tar command and I think that will work but, how do I automate the backups so I can get a daily incremental and a full weekly backup. What service do I use to automate them?

Any suggestions
Thanks in advance

the service you are looking for is called 'cron'
cron can be configured to run tasks as hourly, daily, weekly, monthly etc...
i have not used cron myself so i can't help you any more then that but.. hope that at least points you in the right direction
