authentication using NCSA
hi friends,
i have a REHAT centos inslled machine.i setup a squid2.5-STABLE(proxy server) on to apply user authentication so as to restrict user to access sites by forcing them to put te username and passwd.
i decided to put authentication using NCSA.
accordigly i put all step by step settings in squid.conf
file like
"auth_param basic program /usr/lib/squid/ncsa_auth /usr/local/squid/etc/passwd"
also i have created user for this using
htpasswd /usr/local/squid/etc/passwd username.

but still after configuration and putting correct access control list and rule , it is not prompting for username and passwd when the users are trying to access the site.
but the same configuration is working properly in my home.
just difference is of os version.
in my home redhat EL4
in the office redhat centos 4.2 server.
will you please help me to solve the probem?
is their any setting at the windows client machine required?

I have had the same problem in the past and it is always a ACL issue, if you post your ACL entries someone could advise.
