authentication problem with samba 3 and child domain in ads mode

I am experimenting with samba 3 and joining it to an active directory domain. When I do this the server joins the domain just fine but it will and it will allow users from that domain to login. But it will not allow users from a child domain to login with their credentials. Nor will it let them access the file shares on the box.

So for example

parent.com (users from here work fine)
child.parent.com(these users do not work.)

The server is running RHEL 5.2 with the latest updates.

Anybody have any ideas as to what I can do? I really need to be able to see both domains and allow user from both domains to use the server.
