Authenticating FTP-Users via LDAP

I want to provide different files for download to users, which I create in a Lotus Domino Directory. For that, I have pure-ftpd-ldap running on Debian Etch and I want to make it work in that way, that users that exist in the Domino Directory may connect as ftp-users to the ftp-server. I entered the hostname of the Domino Server into /etc/pure-ftpd/db/ldap.conf, but users that exist in Domino cannot authenticate.

Can somebody help me with this?

Or is there another ftp daemon that does the job better/easier?

Or would it be easier to use Apache for that purpose?

Thx a lot
