Asterisk is very big, answering machine

Dear all,
I must create a server that it do following tasks:
1.play files.
2.run my script.
3.get key code same "please press 0 for operator 1 for sales and ..."
Now i know that i can use asterisk, but asterisk is very big for my work.
i want to install mgetty and its dependency, But i don't know that mgetty can do above tasks or not.
My scenario:
at first user input a code and i must play a file that it explain if you press #1 you can ... if you press #2 you can .... etc. After it, for each number i connect to database and according to his/her code and entered #n i get it a query.
Can i use it with shell script? and a C program in the mgetty?

Strangely enough, there's a faq for that (well at least the basic part), it wouldn't be tremendously hard to do with perl or python I'd imagine. There are several voip libraries you could use as well for both python and perl.

Honestly though, what you're really looking for is... asterisk. It is a big project but scales well and is easy to configure... I had it running on a linksys router for a while.
