apt-get install php5-mcrypt does not create php5/conf.d/mcrypt.ini: Can't continue
Hi, I'm trying to get mcrypt running on ubuntu 14.04 lts server. I installed the LAMP stack when I installed the os.
For the application I need to install, I need to have mcrypt enabled and running.
I invoked sudo apt-get install php5-mcrypt, and restarted apache.
From my understanding, I then need to create a symbolic link in /etc/php5/mods-available to mcrypt.ini, which should exist in php5/conf.d, but that directory was not created during the install process.
As always, any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. That did look promising, but unfortunately, the /usr/share/php5/mcrypt directory does not exist either. I double checked the version, and it's 14.04.2 LTS, if that makes a difference.
I do have the directory:
/usr/lib/php5/20121212, which contains an mcrypt.so file. The /usr/share/doc/php5-mcrypt directory exists, with a changelog, and when I read that, the top item reads:
php-mcrypt (5.4.6-0ubuntu5) trusty; urgency=low
*Install ini file in correct location with PHP 5.5.
Thanks to Johannes Ballman (LP: #123568)
Unfortunately here, it doesn't tell me what that location might be.
Thanks. I still have no mcrypt.ini file in any of those directories. I do have mcrypt.ini.dpkg-new in the /usr/lib/php5/20121212 directory, which I tried to copy to /etc/php5/mods-available, and changed the extension to just read mcrypt.ini, but am still unable to make it run.
OK, as I was working on a vm, I just blew it away, and started over. Good news! mcrypt.ini does get created, but in the php5/mods-available directory. so, my best guess as to my foolishness is that I didn't look, created the symbolic link, which pointed to nothing, and wiped out the one that actually got created. I created one of these servers a few months ago, and the symbolic link was necessary (and I was following my notes meticulously). Now, it seems as if that's no longer necessary. That must be what this is all about:
php-mcrypt (5.4.6-0ubuntu5) trusty; urgency=low
*Install ini file in correct location with PHP 5.5.
Thanks to Johannes Ballman (LP: #123568)
Thanks for the tips knudfl. I would have been stuck much longer without you. I started over with a fresh ubuntu server, installed php5-mcrypt, and ran the dpkg-L command, and found my previous folly at this point.
