Question Apache Tomcat catalina.out renamed to catalina.yyyy-mm-dd.log

I hope this is the right section to post this...

I carried the following operations on catalina.out while the apache tomcat was still running

cp catalina.out catalina.bak
tail catalina.out > catalina.tmp
mv catalina.tmp catalina.out

Since then, the catalina.out is not being used but a new file using the format catalina.yyyy-mm-dd.log is created each day.

Please how can I get the tomcat to revert to logging to the catalina.out file. The permissions on the catalina.out is not changed, it is as it used to be.

You should restart tomcat.

Cheers

Please, what is the best method to manually truncate the catalina.out log without stopping the apache tomcat?

Thumbs up

I restarted the tomcat and the catalina.out returned to its normal behavior. Thank you. I will try the truncation command and also give feedback
