Apache Server fails to start
 
At bootup, I get this error:
[FAIL] startpar: service(s) returned failure: apache2 ... failed!

I am running ubuntu.

First reflex should be to check the web servers log files for clues, then test / validate its configuration.

tail -200 /var/log/apache2/error.log

...and in addition to what j-ray said if your log is kind of large it may be easier to find clues with for example

logwatch --range Today --detail 10 --service httpd
if installed.

So I took a look at the error.log file, and saw that it only goes up till the 27th of april it looks like for some reason.

Then move on to validating its configuration and testing it. There's a switch for the latter.

If you don't have recent log entries, that's a cause for concern. You might want to check quickly if one of your disk partitions is full. Depending on the partition, that could be what is preventing Apache from starting.

ran a df -h, and everything looks fine there. How do I validate the configuration and test it?

There is this error message:

Syntax error on line 265 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Include directory '/var/www/mods-enabled' not found  Action 'start' failed.
I am in the apache2 folder in etc, where the apache2.conf file is stored, and I see the mods-enabled folder there. not sure why it is looking on the other location.

apache2.conf resides in /etc/apache2/ but the error is about /var/www/!

Isn't it just saying that it can't find the mods-enabled directory?
and isn't it saying that line 265 is the link to this directory?
and the mods-enabled folder is there. I will try and provide the config file.
and line 265 is

If the folder exists, does it have the correct permissions to be read and used by apache?
# ls -l /var/www

do you have SElinux active?
# getenforce
