Apache; server side include

Hi,

I am using slackware11, have a problem with apache.. I couldn't enable Server Side Include in fact I did something but not working.
what I did:

added the following line to the httpd.conf
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews +Includes

In my web directory I create a .htaccess which includes following lines

AddType text/html .shtml
AddHandler server-parsed .shtml
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes

I call the following line from test.shtml

<!--#echo var="DATE_LOCAL" -->

The current date should be printed but the result was nothing!!
where is my mistake?

I'm no expert on apache, but I believe you need to modify httpd.conf in the section
<Directory "/var/www/htdocs"> or wherever your web directory is, and change

AllowOverride None

to All (or another allowed option)

as otherwise your .htaccess will be ignored,
then restart apache.
