AIX to Linux x86 platform

Hi All,

We have a requirement of moving from IBM AIX P740 to Intel x86 based Red Hat servers.

Current AIX Server (LPAR) are running on 3 CORE.

How much CORE we should allocate when we move to Intel X86 Server.

Is there any benchmark or guidelines in calculating AIX (P 740) core to Intel x86 hardware?.

Please suggest.

Thanks,

We'll suggest you contact your Red Hat salesperson and ask.

First, you're saying you're moving to x86 based systems?? You're going FROM 64 bit *TO* 32 bit??? Very strange, and more so considering the latest versions of RHEL don't even support 32 bit architecture. Secondly, you tell us nothing about what these servers are actually DOING. How many cores and how much resources will depend on what the server does...support 1,000 users for file and print is far different than supporting 1,000 users with a huge web site and a database back-end.

Talk to your salespeople, since if you're moving to RHEL, you need to PAY FOR IT.
