hi all
having some trouble connecting a rhel5 machine to an Active Directory (windows 2003)
I used the setup tool
when I do join domain, this is the error I get:
ADS join did not work, falling back to RPC...
[2009/08/21 08:49:14, 0] utils/net_rpc_join.c:net_rpc_join_newstyle(367) Error in domain join verification (credential setup failed): NT_STATUS_INVALID_COMPUTER_NAME
Unable to join domain THEDOMAIN.
however, if I do: kinit theuser@THEDOMAIN.LOCAL and use the appropriate password, I can see kerberos succesfully authenticates me
klist gives me a valid ticket
in the AD, I can see the hosts in Computers in the Active Directory Users and COmputers tool
When I do winbindd -S -F -i -n
Could not fetch our SID - did we join?
unable to initalize domain list
What I find strange is this:
net ads info shows:
Failed to get server's current time!
I do have to say that I used thedomain.local everywhere and placed an entry in /etc/hosts to resolve it to the correct host
net ads join -U theuser
Failed to join domain: Operations error
anyone an idea?

I fixed this issue.

I had an entry in hosts file:
x.x.x.x thedomain.com
x.x.x.x theclient theclient.thedomain.com

And I used thedomain.com in all fields where appropriate(kdc, ads, ...).

I get the message about the Time Server not found.
I changed the hosts file:
x.x.x.x theadserver.thedomain.com theadserver
x.x.x.x theclient theclient.thedomain.com

And went through the "setup" tool again chaning all appropriate fields.

After that I was able to be joined in the domain.
You can check this with wbinfo -u or wbinfo -g
Also if you do net ads info: you would see that the time of the server can be found

Hopes this helps someone as I couldn't find any response on other people who had the same problem
