About epel repository on redhat 6
Dear friend
I newly installed the redhat 6.4 on virtual box to learn the redhat linux and I don't have rhn registration and subscription channel on redhat so they don't allow me to install package .My question is that is it possible install and work with the epel or remi repository with out rhn registation on it Advance Thank for your valuable words |
You can always install a re-badged copy of Redhat such as Centos or Scientific Linux, amongst others. They are copies using the Redhat source yet they are free to download and install. You can practise with either of these and get the same experience as with Redhat and you do not need a subscription to the RHN. Have a look at centos.org

BUY!!! the required suport contract for the curent older RHEL6 RHEL 6.6 6.4 is over a year out of date the standard one year license is $299 per year BUY IT!!!! or install the FREE rebuild CentOS 6.6 but UNLESS!!!! YOU MUST USE!!! 6 for software compatibility ( as in a MUST USE piece of software is 6 ONLY) install the Current RHEL 7.1 or the FREE CentOS 7.0 |
Go for CentOS as recommended above. For a user like you there is no real difference between RHEL and CentOS (just the name and brand and RHN).
If you really want to move on with RHEL you could always use the local install to add packages. |
RHEL6.x subscription is paid and you have to pay to them to get this service (RHN to update or upgrade the system).
Go for CentOS or Scientific Linux. Its free to do anything :) |
