A lightweight linux server

Hi all

I am looking for a lightweight Linux server the person I'm building it for isn't looking to spend anything on it he has a old hp pc with 128 mb of ram and 2 120 gb hard drives. He would like it to be based on Debian if possible but would go with what ever works.he says he will be using it for a file server but if it worked out good would use it for other things as well.I told him if he just wanted a file server he could use freenas but he wants to be able to use it for other things if the server works out.I've looked and i can't find a lightweight server.Does Any body have a suggestions on what to use?

Have you tried Debian (since this is what your friend specifically asked for)?

Hardware requirements are here:

You must read the Debian Installation Guide, in particular Chapter 6.3.5.2. Selecting and Installing Software will answer your question.

Plenty of floppy based that might even do. What all do you need on this?

128 is really not too good. The older freenas may be too big even.

Almost any disto could run in command line.

Could try to build what you want at susestudio maybe.

As above, a debian is fine too.
