Is xxx a domain you control? Are you allowing xxx to relay mail?

^^I don't think you answered smallponds question: We need to know if the error from mail.xxx.com is from a domain you control/host or another "foreign" domain?
I would also ask if the first xxx in the error message is the same domain as the second xxx.
In general, this is a temporary (4xx) error from mail.xxx.com that (the second xxx) is attempting too many connections. This may be the result of spamming by the second xxx or caused by a DOS attack from the second xxx.
Again, is the second xxx a domain you control/manage/host??
If so, there is a problem coming from that domain.
If not, your SMTP software is doing what you've configured it to do...stopping "attacks" on your server.

Please let us know.

Thank you.
